About

Photo of Joy Kim

Hayward, California

For more than fifteen years, I've stood in front of classrooms — community colleges, four-year universities, high schools, adult learners — mostly here in the Bay Area.

Eight of those years were in higher education, where I learned that what I loved most wasn't the lecturing. It was the design. The hours spent shaping a lesson so it actually landed. The moment a student leaned forward because something clicked. That quiet love for the craft of designing learning is what brought me to instructional design.

I'm currently completing my internship with the IDOL Courses Academy, where I'll earn my CPTP (Certified Professional in Training and Performance) certification in summer 2026. I've worked through every theoretical stage of course creation using both ADDIE and SAM frameworks, and partnered closely with a subject matter expert to build a full course from analysis to evaluation.

I build interactive eLearning modules in iSpring Suite, Articulate 360, and PowerPoint; create custom animations in Vyond; produce and edit audio in GarageBand and Audacity; and record screen-based tutorials in Camtasia. I integrate generative AI thoughtfully into my workflow — both to accelerate design and to teach the digital literacy skills learners actually need.

I'm currently open to instructional design and eLearning roles — full-time, contract, or remote.

2026 Portfolio Case Study Self-Paced eLearning Redesign

Trauma-Informed Customer Interactions

A self-initiated case study redesigning a live workshop into a SCORM-compliant, WCAG 2.1 AA self-paced eLearning module. The redesign converts facilitated role-plays into branching scenarios and grounds the framework in SAMHSA's six trauma-informed principles.

Projected Results

Evaluation is mapped to all four Kirkpatrick levels: Level 1 via a post-course reaction survey; Level 2 via pre/post confidence surveys and branching-scenario performance; Level 3 via supervisor observation of de-escalation behaviors at 30 days; and Level 4 via reduced complaint escalations and improved customer-satisfaction scores quarter over quarter.
